Hey! Throw So. Cal a Bone!
Corrina and I moved from Hermosa Beach in November of 2005. Like anywhere, there are aspects we miss, and others we don't. We lived there for 5 years and we left behind some great friends. Even though this page has only been up for a couple weeks, and only a handful of folks check it, I've gotten some flack for "neglecting" the California contingent, and from more than one person, too. One guy simply wanted his picture up. Sound like a Californian? Yes.
Anyway, It'd be impossible to do any justice to our friends by trying to express our experiences in words. I figured photos would work best. Most of these were from the last summer because I was a little late on the digi cam train. Don't worry Scott. Your mug is in a couple pics. Looking forward to seeing y'all soon.

Bakers Dozen Blog
A good friend and all around likeable fellow, Jason Baker, has created a blog. I like to think we have the same decent taste in music, garb, and pretty much everything else. Bakers Dozen is sure to provide insight on anything that's worth checking out. He's already got a download for a reggae cover of the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army." I'm glad to see Bake up here, and can't wait for the knowledge to flow.

Some good friends visited us for Coco's birthday
A few weeks ago, Carm & Duane made the trip to NC from Phoenix. Carm took some pics and sent them to me today. These were my favorites. Thanks Carmele!
Dude, you're scaring my dog.

The house probably looked the same in 1955.
My favorite store in downtown Durham. This should be a textbook example when teaching irony to kids. They even went as far to spell it "all"most. When we first moved to Durham, we subletted a loft just a few doors down from this bustling retail establishment. I always wanted to take a picture, fearful that it would be fully cleared out (minus one wedding dress and a chair), and would go undocumented. Thankfully, Carm lent me her camera to snap a pic. Sadly, it was late, and we were unable to do any shopping.

Dear You Who Stole My Scooter
Came across this in the Raleigh Craigslist. I love the end:
Dear you who stole my scooter,
If you have not yet thrown my scooter in a ditch, please return it to me or tell me where to find it. It is an scratched and overused blue Kymco Super Fever ZX50 that only runs when the spark plug is duct taped in place and has bumper stickers in Modern Hebrew. You do not want it. You cannot use it or sell it, and I suspect you cannot read it, but it is my scooter and I want it back very badly. I am a graduate student and cannot afford a new one. I am not interested in prosecuting, this is just a matter of taking something off of your hands which you cannot possibly want. Hey, if you _have_ dropped it in a ditch, please tell me what ditch it is in and I will go there to get it.
Thanks

Lennie Hibbert - Creation Lp - Studio 1 (1969)
As the weather turns warmer, reggae consumes a higher percentage of my listening time. "Creation" is a mellow instrumental Lp by vibraphonist Lennie Hibbert. This album has been getting lots of play over the last week or so. Nice Sunday morning music for sure. Also makes a fantastic soundtrack to clean-up the house, paint a table, or to simply lounge on the couch.

from tropicmusic.com:
"Leonard Aloysius Hibbert, popularly known as "Lennie", popularized the Vibes in Jamaica. He was born in Mavis Bank, Jamaica on November 12, 1928. His interest in music started at the early age of 2 when he devised a little drum from an empty pan. Later at the age of six the local Salvation Army allowed him to play on their drums. At the age of eight years he went to Alpha Boy's School and after some time joined the school band where he was placed on his 'old love', the drums. After leaving school in 1944 he played in several small orchestras and finally joined the Military Band in 1946. It was during his time in the Military Band that he taught himself the Vibes. He returned to Alpha and was Band Master there in the late fifties, where Floyd Lloyd and Vin Gordon were among his students. In 1976 he was awarded the Order of Distinction (O.D.) for his contribution to music on the island and for his work among the youth. He was tirelessly helpful to young people, getting them involved in music, dance, acting, and organized sport. Lennie Hibbert died in the early eighties."

NC's Weather + Longer Days = Happiness
There's no doubt I miss southern California's consistent, beautiful weather. However, there's something about having periods of unfavorable weather (seasons), that makes you appreciate those months when it's "perfect" or even comfortable. This is the time of year that reminds me of growing up in North Carolina. Long days, warm nights, noisy bugs, screen doors, and porches. I'm happy and comfortable here in NC.

Ed's Birthday
Mammoth Mountain, California - New Years 2007. While I wasn't there for the latest trip, a huge group of us rented a house last March to ride and celebrate Ed's Birthday. I'm not sure if everyone has seen these shots, but regardless, they're worth revisiting. A little reflection to get y'all psyched for this year's event.
