TULSA: The Show

Well, as mentioned earlier, stop two of Left Field Project's Right to Left show was in Tulsa this past weekend. Congrats to Duane for another successful opening! People really dug the work. Lots of praise was circulating, not only on the quality of the pieces, but just that an event like this had come to Tulsa. The city definitely was receptive. Good folks all around.

I took tons of pics over the three nights I was in town. I wanted to cover the show first, plus I can only upload so many before I go crazy. I'll cover the other days in subsequent posts. The above photo was just prior to opening. All set and ready to go.

The Space.

People showed up and partied.

New friend in the pack. Seamless.

And partied. Good look.

Duane was nice enough to let me play some rekkids again. To change things up a bit and make for an easier lug, I only played 45's. I got some good comments on my selections. Always good to hear. Thanks to Matt on the sweet T-shirt hook-up. Another vintage find out of the school closet. Plus, it's got a #1 on the back.

As you can see we ran movies on the back wall. As they should, people went bananas over the Lakai "Fully Flared" opening scene.

Duane played rocked the party jams as you'd expect. He even blew a speaker. That's the kind of opening this was: Blown speakers at an art show. Duane, did you ever throw on the Chicago 13?

All so classy, delicious eats consisted of a Jr. High lunch theme (besides the craft beer and wine). Cheetos, a Ding Dong pyramid, and Slim Jims. I think Matt's favorite sport of the evening was watching the ladies sneak Ding Dongs off the table. Relax and enjoy yourself... no worries: it's Friday. BTW, I took one bite of a Slim Jim. Never again.

Fernandai!

The pic says enough.

Our 6th Wedding Anniversary

May 26, 2008 was our 6th anniversary. Six years ago on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend we had all our friends and family gather at Duke Gardens for our ceremony and reception. It was really awesome having everyone share our moment. Our wedding weekend was such a great time that all I can remember was having a blast with my friends and family - dinner at Kanki followed by He's Not Here, the Durham Bulls/Rehearsal Dinner game, and all the wedding day activities. As you can see in the pictures below, we went to the Duke Gardens for the afternoon, Kanki dinner for 2 this time followed by He's Not Here. The only thing missing was the crowd of friends behind us =(

we miss all ya'll!

Happy Memorial Day!

My parents' neighborhood had a picnic that we attended. These veterans played some great tunes. Cadence dipped her feet in the pool. and of coarse there was some great southern grub.

Cadence is Done

We took this a little over a month ago. Cadence had eaten well, but was done by this time. She had just started blowing raspberries, and you'll hear me kind of cueing her to do this. Mind you, this is not really something that's appropriate at the dinner table, so I apologize. Anyway watch it to the end. It's pretty funny.

Stanley turns 200,000

Big day. Our Land Cruiser hit 200K on the odometer this Saturday. I had to run to Chapel Hill in the morning, and had six miles left before the mark. Fortunately, I was able to remember to grab my camera, and was also lucky enough to time a couple of stop lights to grab the shots. We bought Stanley 5 years ago from a guy in Palos Verdes, CA. He was using it to take his girls on surf trips along the Southern California coast. Although, Stanley is quite capable as a daily driver, we also use him as our spare ride. He's not so great on the gas: ~12 miles to the gallon, so he stretches his legs on the weekend.

Usually when I'm at the pump, I'll get folks that will come up and ask one, two or both of these questions: 1. How many miles does it have? and 2. Do you want to sell it? A lot of times these individuals are from overseas (Middle East, Africa or Aussie) where the Land Cruiser is synonymous with durabalilty, dependability, off-road capable. When I say, "He's almost got 200 thousand miles," I've gotten the reply, "Oh, that's nothing. Just change the oil regularly and you'll get 400." Anyway, we have no intention of letting Stanley go. It's clearly Cadence and Raleigh's favorite ride.
